Backline, a new security startup that uses artificial intelligence agents to automatically eliminate the vulnerability of security, is coming out invisible with a 9 million dollar seed round led by Stageone Ventures.
This is the third startup of Maor Goldberg, co-founder and CEO of the company. Previously he co-founded Whitebox Security, which he sold in Sailpoint in 2015, as well as the start of the safety of Aipolic containers, who was acquired by Sysdig in 2021. In 2024, he left Sysdig to start the backline together with Eran Leib (Chief Customer Officer) and Aviad Chen (VP R&D).
The idea behind the backline is that developers and security teams are drowned in the safety notices.
“The only thing we have constantly seen, almost day to day, is that as an industry we drown great organizations with problems,” said Goldberg. “Buy Sysdig, buy Wizz, buy Snyk – all these big companies and big names. Their task is to go to customers and tell them where they have problems. The reality is that these security teams are acquiring these tools, but they cannot solve most of these problems. ”
After all, the safety teams are based on engineers to fix vulnerability, for example, or on the platform engineering teams to correct misunderstandings.
“There is always a need for security teams to chase someone else in the organization. And all these teams, without exception, don’t have time, “he said.
The backline can essentially take notifications from all these security tools and start correcting many of the problems. The agents at the service examine vulnerability, create a proposal on how to solve it, implement the necessary changes and therefore test them.
This test phase is crucial, says Backline and has been inspired by the way the hardware teams use formal methods to test their products. This, Goldberg said, is the only way to generate trust with potential users.
To do this, the company uses large language models (LLMS). “All our intellectual property is built around the harvest from where (the security scan tools have interrupted. There is a high priority problem that must be addressed. Many (this is) thinking about the agents, how to collaborate together and the way you bring the right people in the process, “explained Goldberg.
Backline ambitions go beyond its current reclamation of the software vulnerabilities. Looking to the future, the company wishes to face problems of the software supply chain such as the search for secrets exposed, the resolution of identity and access problems and safety tests of static applications.
“The security arrears are now the number one who holds the ciso at night,” said Tal Slobodkin, a partner management of Stageone Ventures and a supporter of the previous startup of the founding team. “The deep computer security competence of backline combined with their vision for autonomous reclamation has a way out of the priority paradigm through multiple orders for improving the magnitude in the renovation speed. We have not spoken with a single organization that claims to have their safety backlog completely under control, which reports how significant this opportunity is. “
Evolution Equity Partners and Gradient also invested in the seed round.
