X expands its vertical video feed to global users

X of Elon Musk began to expand the launch of his vertical video feed dedicated to users around the world a few days after his debut in the United States, Techcrunch learned and confirmed exclusively by the company.

On Friday, Techcrunch noticed that the new functionality had appeared in various regions outside the United States, including India, Australia and some European markets. A spokesman for X confirmed to Techcrunch that the global launch of the vertical video feed was currently “in progress”. The new functionality is accessible via a dedicated card on the X app, where it has a clearly visible position next to the Grok button.

The spokesman also confirmed that the launch is specific for iOS, which means that Android users will have to wait a little longer. (The company did not share an exact period of time for the launch of Android.)

At the beginning of this week, X published its vertical video feed in the United States in a context of uncertainty about Tiktok’s future on the market following the ban on Tiktok. The application of the prohibition is currently on pause since President Trump has extended the term for Tiktok to conclude an agreement that would give in a little control to an US entity, if not a complete disinvestment of his operations in the United States, to protect National security interests.

In addition to providing entertainment, the new video functionality also allows X to view advertisements after users have some short videos last. This helps the company to generate additional revenues keeping users involved with video content, a common strategy on all social networks, including Instagram, Tiktok and others.

Video experiences have become a key goal for X in general. Last year, the platform launched an autonomous TV app to show videos of creators and organizations. X also allowed users in 2022 to scroll short videos by touching a video in the timeline and scrolling it upwards.
