Tesla’s attempt to mark the term “robotaxi” in reference to its vehicles was rejected by the patent office and brands of the United States to be too generic, according to a new deposit. Another application of Tesla for brand The term “robotaxi” for its next driving service is still in question by the office.
In addition, Tesla’s questions for the brand on the term “cybercab” have been interrupted due to other companies that pursue similar “IT” brands. This includes a company that has requested numerous brands relating to Cybertruck Aftermarket accessories.
The USPTO has released Tuesday what is known as a “non -final office action” on the “Robotaxi” brand demand, which means that Tesla is three months to submit an answer or the office will abandon the application. A brand lawyer representing Tesla did not immediately respond to a commentary request.
Tesla asked for the brands in October 2024 on the same day on which he revealed the cybercab, the specially built electric car that hopes to use one day in its autonomous self -travel service expected. Tesla also submitted two similar questions about the brand of 10 October for the term “Robibus”, which are still in question.
The brand that was rejected was assigned to a USPTO examiner on April 14. Tesla said he would use the word in reference to “(l) and vehicles; electric vehicles, that is to say cars; cars; and structural parts for them”, according to the original application.
While the examination of the USPTO discovered that there were no contrasting brands, refused the question because it was “simply descriptive”. The examiner wrote that the term “robotaxi” is “used to describe goods and similar services from other companies”.
“(S) the Uch formulation seems to be generic in the context of the assets and/or services of the applicant,” wrote the examiner.

Tesla will be authorized to present evidence and topics to support their argument in favor of the brand. In this case, the USPTO has it that Tesla provides “(F) Act sheets, instruction manuals, brochures, relevant advertising and screenshots of the applicant’s website in relation to the goods and/or services in the application, including the materials that use the terms in the applied brand.”
In other words, Tesla has to give the Agency specific plans on how and why it deserves the “Robotaxi” brand.
The examiner also wrote that Tesla will have to say to the use if the “competitors” use the terms “robob, robot or robotic to advertise goods and/or similar services”.
The other question of Tesla for the “Robotaxi” brand would cover the use of the word when it offered transport services, including “Coordination of travel provisions for people and groups”, “organize rinsharing services based on time” and offer a sharing or rental of vehicles. This application was also assigned to an Untpto examiner on April 14, but no decision was submitted.
