A game emulator called Delta is taking advantage of the court’s recent decision on the Apple App Store to support its business by connecting to its Patreon subscription page. The update, approved on Wednesday for the release on the United States App Store, allows Delta users to join the Patreon of the Delta team directly from the mobile app, without giving Apple a cut of its registrations.
The move follows the judgment of the court of last week which forced Apple to completely open its United States App Store to external purchases, after a fight of years with the Maker Fortnite Epic Games. Although Apple has largely won that antitrust case, a judge established that the technological giant had not correctly followed the orders of the Court in a key area: in-app purchases.
Apple previously checked which apps they could connect to their websites and added screens to users away from making purchases through external payment mechanisms. In the meantime, he was still charged with a 27%web sales commission, down by his usual 30%.
After judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers established that Apple had not been able to respect his original injunction, Apple has changed the rules of the App Store for the United States since then, companies such as Spotify, Amazon Kindle and Patreon have updated their iOS apps to add connections to their websites in which consumers can pay directly, without using Apple’s purchases.
Although this is a victory for larger companies that now manage to maintain more profits by skirting the Apple commission, the Delta update is an example of how the sentence makes the place to new business models to monetize the mobile apps.
This change could give the App Store the push you need at a time when the development of independent apps is down and each iOS releases “Sherlocks” (copies) plus third -party apps. The smaller developers often struggle to earn a living after paying a 30% commission to Apple, but now they have the opportunity to keep more profits thanks to the support expanded for web payments.
In the updated version of the Delta game emulator, users are asked to “join our Patreon” from the App Settings screen. Here, then click on a button to register for the Patreon registration from $ 3 per month of Delta, which provides access to exclusive features and other advantages.

The web page opens within the app, allowing users to connect their Patreon accounts and choose a subscription level, as a monthly or annual. (First, users could only connect a patreon account in the app, but they could not register directly.)
“Now we can freely mention our Patreon without giving Apple 27% of the donations”, observed the creator of Delta Riley Testut in a post on social media, adding, “goodbye frightening screens” – a reference to the previously requested warnings that pushed users away from the external purchase links.

Delta still includes a way to pay Apple’s in-app purchases, as is still required. However, it is hidden with an “alternative payment methods” menu in the Settings screen: an option that many users will probably never look for.
Hiding the consumer options deep in the menu layers is a makeup that Apple herself has used to its advantage over the years.
For example, if you want to deactivate Apple’s personalized ads (essentially the Apple version of its pop-up authorization “do not trace” for apps), you must deepen your iOS settings, go to privacy & security, scroll until the end of the page, touch Apple advertising, then activate personalized ads. Or, if you want to delete the use data of the apps that customize the experience of the App Store, you must go to Settings> Apps> App Store> Scroll to that page, tap Personalized advice, then touches delete the data on the use of the apps on the screen that appears.
Apple certainly can’t be angry with developers for the adoption of their tactics?
Since the Delta app has now received approval from the review of the Apple app, it seems to follow that soon we will see other apps supported by Patreon emerge in the near future.
