There are numerous projects now in progress focused on the development of a video-print app for the social network Open Source Bluesky. However, it stands out from the rest: an imminent app called Reloo is not based on the top of the Bluesky social network, as there are many others, but it is being built on the underlying protocol that also uses Bluesky. This allows him to differentiate himself with a wider set of features that will include support for videos, filters, effects, a music bookcase and, finally, Vivestream.
Many apps in this space – such as Bluescreen, videos for Bluesky and Skylight – are bound by Bluesky’s limits. Since Bluesky was originally designed to compete with X (previously Twitter), it does not have a set of functionality comparable to an app like Tiktok.
These limitations make room for a new type of video app fueled by the AT protocol that could interact with Bluesky, as Reloo does, but can also be alone.
Other Bluesky video apps work as a layer above the Bluesky platform, explains the developer of Reheo, João Davi SN, based in Rio Grande do Sul, in Brazil. This means that they lack key characteristics that would allow them to compete more directly with Tiktok, such as Creator tools and monetization.
Like other developers, João Davi initially tested the idea of building a video app also for Bluesky. But he quickly discovered that it was not what he had in mind.
“When I finished the first prototype using Bluesky technology, I said ‘ok, this is a crap. I can’t do anything with this, “he says. After all, he underlines João Davi, it was more than uploading videos that made Tiktok work.
“It was music, effects, (e) a variety of skills,” he says. “Creating the video, publishing the video is certainly not the most important thing. He is making videos that capture attention.”
To face this, João Davi has decided to work on a video app based on the AT protocol, such as Bluesky, but who has his back -nd, the code base and the lexicon. (The latter says refers to how the code imposes how the view of the app is provided)
This choice allows Rebo to support up to three minutes videos – longer than Bluesky – and will later allow live streaming. Compared, Bluesky and other third -party video apps built on Bluesky are limited to the video support of a minute Bluesky (unless the company change it in the future.)
As the only developer with a separate business that finances his efforts, he expects it to be March before launching Reloo to the public. (João Davi has already had some interest for investors, who could accelerate efforts, but nothing is yet confirmed.)
Reloo presents a swollen vertical feed video with family interaction buttons for sympathy, comment, sharing and more. To store user data, Reloo will perform their PDS (personal data server), but technical users can set their PD, just as they can for Bluesky.
The app will intend with Bluesky so that users can find their friends, but publishing Videos of Bluesky’s Bluesky could be an optional step, as a control box in the User interface of the app. (When they can be published, a minute videos could be published directly on Bluesky, but the longer videos should be a incorporation.)
Also as Bluesky, Reloo could offer multiple personalized feeds, including one with Bluesky videos, another for the videos of rings and various topical feeds for things such as music, dance and more.
To monetize the app, João Davi is evaluating both the announcements and the season tickets, where the revenue could be shared with the creators. Premium plans can include things such as the support of livestreaming and superior quality videos, but nothing is yet determined.
However, João Davi intends to make the division fair to the creators. “I just need money to pay (for) servers and anyone who is working. More than that, is it as “what do I do with this money?” “, He says.
Reloo is not yet available but will launch a recording for the beta testers at the beginning of this year.
Correction: João Davi lives in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, not Brasilia. This was updated after publication.
