Pinterest updates visual research with more features based on artificial intelligence

Pinterest is updating its visual research function with a handful of new features.

On Monday, the company has announced that it is launching new features to improve its function that allows users to look for using an image instead of the text. This includes new tools for more strictly restricted and perfected research, as well as those that make visual research more accessible on the Pinterest website.

The company believes that the new additions will help Pinterest to stand out as a search engine for the things that users could otherwise have difficulty describing with words, such as an atmosphere, a style or an aesthetic.

A new improvement will help users better understand what a certain pivot is liked, initially in the women’s fashion category in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom

Here, when users touch a pivot, they will see an animated and Pinterest glow will generate words that help people determine because she likes the pin first. This function is powered by Visual Language Models (VLMS), a form of generative, says the company.

The addition is similar to the multimodal research of Google, which combines text and images in a single query. In this case, however, Pinterest is helping users by generating the words that could be used to increase and restrict their research query. (The company notes that is using multimodal models of “industry leader” but has not specified which.)

Another update will allow users to perfect their fashion research looking for alternatives to the article shown in a different color, tissue or fabric. For example, Pinterest suggests that you could use it to find a similar style that had more than an aesthetic “Y2K” or find something similar to a blazer that you liked but that works better for a formal occasion.

Pinterest also says that he will expand his visual research on several areas of his app, also to allow users to predict for a long time on any PIN on the home feed to start visual research.

The update comes in the wake of an ad that Pinterest will begin to label the images generated by the AI and will soon allow users to limit the number of artificial intelligence images that are shown, after numerous users’ complaints. People had started to worry that the IA would ruin Pinterest, since it would be even more difficult to find authentic images that could inspire their future purchases.

In combination with the update focused on artificial intelligence and the best visual research, Pinterest hopes to restore its use as a visual shopping tool that uses the IA, unlike one that is destroyed by it.
