For years, the Batt, Amazon’s Chokehold and the domination of the editorial sector have been so strong that authors and booksellers have accused the company of managing a monopoly.
Amazon is dominant in the sale of e-books for his Kindle, which is one of the main electronic readers on the market. Aware consumers can contact companies like Kobo for their hardware, but even so, there are often no options to buy e-book directly from independent publishers and books, which means that readers usually resort to Amazon, Barnes & Noble Or other great boxes of boxes.
Bookshop.org and Book.FM emerged as alternatives to Amazon, sharing a cutting of sales with independent bookstores in America. But for e-book readers, it was difficult to buy new titles without going through Amazon’s ecosystem. Bookshop.org’s expansion in e-book offers consumers a long-awaited option to buy these digital books while supporting small businesses.
“When we launched Bookshop.org, the vision was to support local bookstores in their battle against Amazon and other online retailers,” said Andy Hunter, founder and CEO of Bookshop.org, in an announcement of the new service skills. “This launch represents our commitment to keep the bookstores afloat.”
At present, Bookshop.org’s e-books are only available in the web browser or on the Bookshop.org apps, available for Android and iOS.
To maximize its impact on the market, however, Bookshop.org will have to offer ways to download its e-books on e-readers like Kindle.
“The library that sells e-book is not a cure. Amazon monopolized the e-book space for too long to be, “wrote the critic of the book Maris Kreizman on Bluesky. “But it’s an important first step and it’s worth celebrating.”
